About the Majlis
Majlis is an Arabic word meaning “a place where we sit”. The Strath PGR Majlis is a weekly space to end the week together, and everyone is welcome, whatever your background, culture or discipline.
Started by a PGR, for PGRs, the Strath PGR Majlis draws on a tradition rooted in Arab culture and recognised by UNESCO as intangible cultural heritage. A majlis is a regular, open space where people come together without an agenda to share conversation, food and company.
Doctoral study can be isolating. The Majlis offers a gentle way to connect with other PGRs from across the University. There is nothing to prepare and nothing you need to share about yourself. Come for a short while or stay until 6pm.
Bring something to share if you like: food, a board game, cards, or something you enjoy, such as knitting or drawing. Or just bring yourself.
The Majlis is a shared space, and everyone is welcome to suggest ideas or propose a theme for an evening.
